Coupons and Deep Discounting PLEASE  THINK TWICE BEFORE DEEP DISCOUNTING YOUR PRODUCT OR SERVICE! We are the radio station that truly cares for Door County business and believe in sticking up for your bottom line and ultimately, your success.  Is doing one of those “Grouponesque” or coupon/certificate/trade deals on your radar?  Several Door County businesses that have been a part of deep discounting their business with certificates are no longer in business.

Here's a couple things you can do to make sure you have your T's crossed and I's dotted when considering coupons.

1) The Math: Run the numbers! Check the real price of the promotion or discount. Does giving away $5000 in worth at $2500 even cover your costs? What about your profit margin? “Cash back” or not….do the math.

2) The Exposure: Know that statistics show that your business isn’t being remembered for the great deal that you are giving away. The organization issuing the certificate is getting all the name or brand recognition for your offer.

3) Erosion: Coupons are not a loyalty program and statistics also show that it degrades and erodes your current customer base. Clients begin to ask themselves, "Are you overpricing your product since someone else is able to offer it at such a deep discount?" Discounting to a select audience through a discounting service could be a great way to anger your normal, loyal customers.  You begin to build loyalty with the person searching for the 'deal' who doesn't see value in your product. They don't return as loyal customers who appreciate your unique business and buy things at full price, they will just wait for the next deal.
